Family time

Gorillas are native to the rain forests of Africa’s Congo Basin, where they live in family groups. Their habitat ranges from mountain forests to swamps and lowlands.

Gorillas get all the hydration they need from their food. Every day, an adult male gorilla can munch up to 66 pounds (30kgs) of juicy roots, shoots, fruit, wild celery, tree bark, and sometimes insects. Yum!

Slurp!

Gorillas often quench their thirst by licking the morning dew off the forest leaves. They’ve even been spotted using the hair on the back of their hands to absorb water, then slurping it off!

Lookalike!

Gorillas are one of our closest relatives. In fact, humans share over 98 percent of their DNA with gorillas.

Snoozers

Like us, gorillas make “beds” to catch some Z’s! They use leaves and branches to build cozy nests on the forest floor and high up in trees, where they can snuggle down for the night.
